Steubenville Police

Chugged it: A woman was “staggering and appeared intoxicated” on Adams Street near Edgar Avenue, Wednesday. Police said she “admitted consuming a large quantity of high-percentage alcohol in a short time period,” so they kept her in the cruiser until Steubenville firefighters arrived and took her to the hospital for evaluation.

Goodbye girls: A woman who said she was checking on an individual who was told to gather her belongings and leave a building in the 400 block of North Fifth Street said when she opened the door the individual struck her with several items Wednesday. She said she defended herself, hitting the individual who threw the items at her. Police said they found the other woman “on the ground, bleeding from her nose.” She was able to speak but initially refused to give them any information, they said, though she did ask to go to the hospital.

Fraud: A city resident reported nearly $4,000 in fraudulent charges on her credit card, Wednesday. The woman told police the thief made $3,846 in fraudulent charges since Aug. 4.

Theft: Employees at Rural King told police someone left the store with $900 in Milwaukee Tools they hadn’t paid for, Wednesday.

Friction: Two people in the 1400 block of Oregon Avenue told a woman who’d been renting a room from them she needed to leave, Wednesday. The renter advised she’d been living there for several months, paying rent and utilities, and was able to show police documentation to prove it. All three were advised it was a civil matter and she’d have to be evicted from the residence.

Locked out: An Adams Street resident told police her husband wouldn’t let her into their home, Wednesday. They told the man she can go in and out whenever she wants because it’s “just as much hers as it is his.” They were advised to stay away from each other for the remainder of the night “as the two showed no signs of being cordial with one another” while officers were there.

Charged: A Mingo Junction man was taken into custody after a disturbance at a downtown restaurant, Wednesday. Police said Adam Roberts, 43, 616 state Route 151, Mingo Junction, was charged with intoxication and drunk and disorderly after he allegedly went into the restaurant “highly intoxicated and began making threats” to the woman. They said she told them he “comes to see her from time to time” to try and speak with her, but she doesn’t like it “due to him being intoxicated when he is around.”

Vandalized: A South Fourth Street resident said she returned home to find two windows on the second floor of her home broken, Wednesday.

Anger issues: A man causing a disturbance in the 1200 block of Pennsylvania Avenue told police he dropped his cellphone, which “angered him so he stomped on it, shattering it,” Wednesday. He told police he has anger problems and the situation “spiraled out of countrol,” and said he believed his family “was out to get him” and said they’d argued. Others present confirmed his account, though one of them said he “threatened to shoot the door in” if they locked him out.

Mishap: Dean Phillips, 34, 157 Gumps Lane, Wintersville, cited for assured clear distance ahead after he allegedly rear-ended a school bus trying to make a left turn Wednesday in the 200 block of John Scott Highway. The bus was drivable, but Phillips’ vehicle had heavy front-end damage, police said.

Big bump: A vehicle that had to be jumped at Circle K “immediately reversed and struck” a car parked at the gas pump, Tuesday. A hitch on the bumper of the stalled vehicle poked a hole in the parked car, police said.

Booked: Jody L. Petros, 52, 429 Cove Road, Weirton, bench warrant (municipal court), Tuesday.

Served: Mary Benvenuti, 69, Third St., Brilliant, failure to appear, Wednesday; Leann M. Rocchio, 42, 210 Madison Ave., Mingo Junction, bench warrant, Wednesday; Ralph Manna, 58, no fixed address, warrant for failure to appear, Wednesday; Bradley M. McKenzie, 42, Westfield Road, East Liverpool, warrant for failure to appear; Sean T. Lindsey II, 33, no address listed, failure to appear, Tuesday.

Cited: Michael Clark, 34, 125 Beechwood Blvd., Wintersville, driving under suspension.

Jefferson County Sheriff

Bruised: A student showed up at a Jefferson County school with a golf-ball sized bruise on his face and another on his arm, Tuesday. He told school personnel his father had punched him and said usually he gets yelled at or grounded. When officials talked to his mother, she claimed the child “falls a lot and he is clumsy,” and said her husband never hit him.

Alcohol talking: A man living in the Steubenville area told deputies he discovered his phone was missing, Thursday. Deputies said the man was “highly intoxicated” so they told him if he still can’t find the phone when the alcohol wears off to call back.

Unsettling: A man who’d been hunting at Jefferson Lake State Park said a woman on foot approached him saying, “I can’t trust him. I need help, can I use your phone,” Wednesday. He told deputies there was no one around nor did he see any cars in the area and felt unsafe allowing her to have it so he gave her directions to the campground. Deputies checked the area but didn’t locate the female.
