Asking for it: A Martins Ferry man told police he punched a car, denting it after the driver tried to hit him in the 2800 block of Sunset Boulevard, Thursday. He told them he’d “spent the night with (the motorist’s) girlfriend” and was dropping her off when they started arguing. He said the woman’s boyfriend was “also harassing him by text.” He was advised to stay away from the woman and her boyfriend. Police also told her boyfriend to stop all contact with the other man.
Loading up: Detectives were able to identify a woman who fled Kroger with two shopping carts loaded with merchandise, Wednesday. They said the woman filled a shopping cart with merchandise, located a second cart and put some of the merchandise in it. Police said she left one cart by the exit, then took the other cart to the checkout but scanned only some of the items before taking them to the parking lot, then returned for the other cart without paying for any of it. Employees believe she stole as much as $1,100 in merchandise, police said.
Questions: A former Steubenville resident said she paid a moving company in advance about six months ago to transport her belongings to her new home in Norfolk, Va., “and she still has not received her items,” Wednesday. She said she spoke with a company representative who “demanded more money and when she refused, he refunded her money and stated that he would sell her (things),” including two handguns belonging to her.
Robbed: A city resident said he was walking on Pittsburgh Street near Euclid Avenue when he was approached by two men who “hit him at least once and knocked him to the ground before fleeing with his wallet,” Thursday. He said his wallet contained close to $120, along with his ID and Social Security cards.
Friendly folk: A woman said she was hit by a woman known to her who walked up behind her in the 400 block of North Sixth Street and smacked her across one side of her face and said, “I told you I was going to catch you,” Wednesday. She said she was on her phone talking to her husband when she noticed a vehicle go past, then heard a car door close just before she was struck, then her assailant got back in the car and drove away. She said they’d both been staying at the homeless shelter and the other woman claimed she owes her $50. Police said her ear and cheek were red, but she denied medical attention though she said she wants to pursue charges.
Red faced: A Greenwich Avenue resident told police a neighbor was harassing her about her vehicle being parked next to her residence, but after checking property maps police determined the car was parked on the neighbor’s property, Wednesday. The neighbor said he didn’t mind them parking there but said he wanted them to park a certain way and if they couldn’t, he didn’t want them on his property. The woman said she’d move her car to the street.
Booked: Cameron D. Petteway, 35, 231 Hollywood Blvd., Steubenville, contempt of court and criminal trespass, Tuesday. Petteway allegedly ignored a protection order barring him from stalking or harassing family members and prohibiting him from coming within 500 feet of them. Security footage from the property showed Petteway entering a utility building and then blowing kisses at a security camera.
