Steubenville Police

Cheating hearts: Dispatchers say a woman in the 2800 block of Sunset Boulevard called 911 and all they could hear was a loud argument in the background, Monday. She didn’t give her location but they pinged her phone to figure out an address. A neighbor said she hadn’t called but she heard nearby residents arguing, but when they talked to them the two “both stated they were confused by (the officer’s) presence and advised they didn’t call police.” Police said they both smelled of alcohol and their clothing was disheveled. The female eventually admitted she’d called because they were arguing about the man cheating on her and she felt unsafe, telling police at one point he grabbed the “alcohol out of her hand and poured it on her” so she responded by “attempting to kick (him)” but missed. Due to them “being intoxicated and… continuing to argue,” police advised them to separate for the night and gave the woman a ride to a friend’s home downtown.

Entitled: Employees at a downtown gas station told police a woman and two men came into the store, stole hot food and drinks and left in a white SUV, Monday. They said when they told the trio they needed to pay for their selections, “they became irate and began screaming and threatening (them),” then threw food “all over the sidewalk in front of the store and left the area.

Fire hazard: A resident reported a woman who appeared to be staying in the shelter at the marina had started a small campfire and refused to put it out, Sunday. She left the area before officers arrived.

Tall tales: A caller told police a woman was being held hostage by the staff at a shelter downtown, but when they talked with the staff, they learned no one by the name they’d given was staying there or had ever stayed there. They told police someone had called earlier “asking staff questions” about a person by the name prior to their arrival.

Neighborhood wars: A Rosswell Avenue resident said a neighbor threatened to tase her child if the child went on her property, Sunday. She said she’s been arguing with the woman.

Discovered: A man was found on the ground in front of a building in the 100 block of North Fourth Street, Sunday. He left when officers told him he couldn’t stay there.

Over-indulged: Callers reported an intoxicated man in a vehicle at Lovers Lane and Sunset Boulevard, Sunday. Police located a man who they said did appear to be under the influence, so they gave him a ride home.

Needed a ride: Police said a man on the ground on Seventh Street at Market Street turned out to be “highly intoxicated,” Sunday. They said they could smell a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. A friend arrived and took him home, police said.

Not wanted: Callers complained about a man panhandling in a parking lot in the 100 block of North Fourth Street had already been banned from the property, Sunday. Police said they found him sitting on a bench and he told them he was trying to visit a family member. Police advised him that he was banned from the building and shouldn’t return.

Drugs: A woman overdosed at a property in the 900 block of North Sixth Street, Sunday. A family member told police when she found her the woman was not breathing. Steubenville firefighters/EMS revived her with Narcan, and she told police she’d taken two Perc-30 street pills. She was given a drug overdose form and taken to the hospital for further treatment.

Shattered: A Maryland Avenue resident said he was sitting inside his residence when he heard a loud bang and discovered the glass in his back door had been shattered, Monday. He said there was a big piece of concrete next to the door and figures juveniles living in the vicinity threw it

Surprise visit: A Ridge Avenue resident told police a neighbor came into her house “multiple times” overnight while she was sleeping, Sunday. She didn’t want police to talk to the woman, telling police she just wants it documented that the woman “comes over to her house without permission.”

Concerning: Someone reported seeing a silver Ford F-150 circling the block and said they could hear a female screaming for help, Saturday. Police checked the area but didn’t find the vehicle or hear cries for help.

Loud: A woman in the 700 block of Market Street was told to lower the volume on her radio after neighbors complained, Saturday. Police said they could hear the radio from the street.

Overnighter: A Steubenville man said a woman from West Virginia who’d spent the night with him left before he got up and took a car he’d just purchased for $300, Saturday. It was still registered in the name of the former owner, and deputies told him they couldn’t do anything without the other man being present.

Phone fight: A man took his girlfriend’s phone at a Hammondsville location and refused to give it back, but when deputies arrived, she said he’d returned it and they both insisted everything was fine, Friday. She told deputies he took the phone because she had explicit photos on it, but she’d erased them. She said it never got physical.

Unhappy: Mingo Junction residents told deputies a dog from the neighborhood “ate three cats,” Saturday. They said they’d reported the problems before and nothing came of it and they were going to look for the dogs and shoot them, despite deputies warning that it’s not a good idea to fire a gun in village limits.

Walk off: A 19-year-old inmate at Eastern Ohio Correction Center walked away only to turn himself in several hours later, Saturday. Camren Malachi Sisco of Rogers was initially accepted back at EOCC, but 45 minutes later EOCC staff advised deputies he was no longer wanted there. Deputies, however, by then had canceled his temporary arrest warrant and told EOCC that at that point they couldn’t take him into jail until prosecutors reviewed the information.

Fighting brothers: A Wintersville woman said her boyfriend and his brother got into a fight and when she tried to break it up, she was hit in the eye, Saturday. She’s not interested in pursuing charges.

Stolen: A Dillonvale man reported a tractor had been stolen from Friendship Park, Sunday. He told deputies it was parked in a field north of the drag strip and said when he saw it missing, he noticed tracks leading to a service road that runs to county Road 23. He said he discovered it was missing July 12 and reported it was last used May 10.

Counter help: A caller reported a man sleeping on the counter at a Springdale Avenue laundromat, Saturday. When officers arrived, he was gone.
