Steubenville Police
Sacked: The manager of an apartment complex told police he'd terminated an individual he believed responsible for thefts throughout the building, Friday. The manager alleges thousands of dollars in copper pipe, tools and even tenant mail were stolen, and said the terminated employee had mailbox keys. He said the mail thefts stopped when he changed the keys after residents began complaining.
Disturbance: A woman "yelling and crying" in the middle of the road in the 3200 block of Portland Boulevard ended up being charged with public intoxication, Saturday. Police said Talia Schoonover, 33, 524 Highland Ave., allegedly told corrections officers she'd snorted cocaine. They claim Schoonover was "acting very erratic and could not stand still, with glossy eyes and dilated pupils and was "very difficult to understand." Schoonover was booked into the county jail on an eight-hour intoxication hold, they said.
Questions: Opal Boulevard residents told police they didn't let a man take his children from their home because he was drunk, Saturday. They told police the kids had asked them to come get them because there was "no food or water" in their dad's house and "their father was intoxicated." They said they don't believe the kids are safe with their father, and claimed when he came to pick them up, he was drunk.
Down time: Police were dispatched to the 300 block of North Commercial Alley for a man lying in the roadway, Saturday. Officers said the man told them he was tired, and they didn't see signs of impairment so he was sent on his way.
Booked: Joshua Rinkes, 41, 49540 High Street Road, Cadiz, assaulting an officer, Friday. Rinkes allegedly tried to knee an officer in the groin and took a swing at him as he tried to calm him, Friday.
Truth or consequences: A woman who allegedly lied to police about her name ended up being charged with falsification, Saturday. Police said Jiah Minniefield, 26, 624 N. Fourth St., Steubenville, was also charged with failure to appear and possession of drug paraphernalia, a crack pipe they said fell from her lap and a push rod from her waistband when she was handcuffed. Police were sent to another apartment in the building after a disturbance was reported. Minniefield was standing in the dark in the bathroom, and when asked her name told police "Marie Smith" with a birthdate that would have made her 46 years old "when she was clearly not 46," officers said.
Red eye: Callers reported three parked vehicles were struck by a hit-and-run driver at the wheel of a gold sedan in the 1500 block of Foster Place, Saturday. Police said one vehicle had damaged to the rear passenger side bumper, the second had damage to the rear passenger side door and the third, damaged rear driver's side bumper and two flat tires, but they were able to recover a headlight of the vehicle responsible for the damage. A witness reported seeing the man who'd been driving the third vehicle talking to the driver of the gold sedan before the sedan reversed and struck the first two cars. Police said the driver of the gold sedan, Mikeala L. Rood, 21, 901 Bank St., Apt. 48, Toronto, told police the man she'd been talking to had pepper sprayed her and admitted striking his vehicle but denied hitting the other two. Police did report seeing redness on her face and pepper spray throughout her car, which had damage to the hood, trunk, both bumpers and headlight. Before being transported to Trinity Medical West, Rood was cited for hit-skip and driving under suspension, and advised to speak with the prosecutor if she wants to pursue charges.
Won't let up : A Wintersville woman said she stopped for gas downtown and she was confronted by a man who said he "was going to continue posting things on social media about her daughter as well as (contacting) her place of employment," Friday. She said she told him to leave her alone several times, but he continued his diatribe, and said she's afraid of him and wanted a report on file. Her daughter already has a protection order against the man, and police advised her how she could obtain one for herself.
Why bother: A man in the 1500 block of Plum Street wanted a woman removed from his residence because she was causing a disturbance, but when police arrived, he refused to talk to them, Saturday. Police told her she had to leave anyway.
Weary: A man in the 100 block of North Court Street sleeping next to a dumpster told police he was fine, Saturday.
Hoofing it: Police gave a juvenile walking from Mingo Junction to Steubenville in the construction zone on state Route 7 a ride to his destination, Saturday. They'd talked to his grandmother, who said she knew where he was and had given him permission to visit friends on Lincoln Heights.
Reservations required: A Lincoln Avenue resident told police her landlord sent people into her residence without notice, Saturday. She said she's had issues with raccoons in the house and told the landlord, who sent workers into her home without properly notifying her. She said she went to the landlord's residence to tell her she wanted to be told beforehand and the landlady got upset because her boyfriend was with her and told them to leave.
Gone: A woman called police to report someone was inside her residence in the 900 block of Kendall Avenue, Friday. Police said she hung up before police could get details from her, and when they got there, they found no one, including the caller, and said everything appeared secure.
Booked: James E. White, 41, 3101 county Road 11, Dillonvale, failure to appear warrant (Belmont County), Friday. White also was cited for speeding.
Impulsive: A juvenile punched the side of a U-haul parked in the 1400 block of Oregon Avenue, Friday. A woman said she asked the youth why he did it and he told her, "Because I wanted to." Police were able to identify the youth with video she had of the incident, but she said nothing appeared to have been damaged and she just wanted it documented and for officers to tell the kid to leave her property alone. Helped: Police purchased $5 in gasoline for a Romanian couple and their two children asking people for money outside Wal-Mart, Saturday. They told officers they'd run out of gas.
Code issues: Notices of violation were sent to owners/occupants of properties at 2404 Sunet Blvd., 313-315 Belleview Blvd. (multi-plex), 911 Pittsburgh St., high grass/weeds; and 1412 Euclid Ave., bags of trash and other litter in the rear of residence.

Jefferson County Sheriff
Threats: A man told deputies he's been receiving threatening calls, texts and Facebook messages ever since he reported people trespassing on a neighbor's private property several weeks ago, Thursday.
Didn't want help: Employees of a Wintersville business reported a suspicious male behind their building, Thursday. Deputies located the male, who said he'd been arguing with the voices inside his head, but he refused to go to the hospital, so they took him home.
Partied hard: A Tiltonsville resident reported a loud party with underage drinking, Friday. The caller said the juveniles were partying outside a vehicle behind a Cleveland Street residence, but they were gone and all was quiet when deputies arrived.
