Near miss: A Youngstown resident said she was Face-timing with her brother "and it appeared he'd overdosed" and a female with him told her he "was already dead," Saturday. The female was gone when police got to the house, but her car was spotted on Lawson Avenu so they stopped her. The woman told them there was "nothing" going on, but they spotted the male in the passenger seat leaning over to the center console "and appearing to be unresponsive." He wasn't breathing, so an officer began administering sternum rubs. As the man regained consciousness, police said he appeared disoriented and didn't know what had happened, with bloodshot, glassy eyes and slurred speech and an open bottle of beer tucked in the passenger side door. He said he hadn't been drinking but did take a suboxone earlier in the evening and after he refused medical treatment the woman walked him home. About an hour later, the female called police to report a vehicle pulled in front of her residence and individuals in it "began threatening to kill her."
Touchy neighbors: A Sinclair Avenue resident told police his neighbor accused him of putting tires on his property and assaulted him, Friday. He said his neighbor "grabbed him by the throat and struck him in the head several times" and had a small scratch and some redness on his neck so he wanted to pursue charges, police said. The neighbor said the other man had shoved him so he shoved him back, but then his wife got between them so it wouldn't escalate. He did not want to pursue charges.
Phone a friend: A South Sixth Street resident told police her male friend stole her brand new cell phone, Friday. She said she'd left it in its original packaging in a drawer in her bedroom, but when she and the man were walking in Beatty Park, she realized he had it and wouldn't give it back. She described it for police, and while on an unrelated call they found the man who had the phone in his hand. He claimed the woman had given it to him but said he would "let (them) return it back to her," police said.
He said, she said: A Market Street resident said her ex is threatening to harm her or get someone to do it for him, Friday. She told police he's also threatened to damage her vehicle. He told police he never threatened her and claims she's falsely accused him in the past.
In custody: A Toronto woman said she lent her car to a friend who didn't bring it back or give it to a another friend whose name she did not know, Friday. Police said they ended up taking the woman, Amber S. Burrows, 23, 901 Bank St., Apt. 61, Toronto, in custody on a warrant for failure to appear.
Noisy: A caller reported hearing shots fired in the 100 block of North Fourth Street, but police spoke with a pedestrian crossing Washington Street who told them he'd seen a truck backfire at the light, Friday. Police said they checked the area anyway but didn't find anything that suggested guns had been fired.
Booked: Quarnailla K. Gee, 26, 429 Lincoln Ave., bench warrant and two counts of obstruction, Friday. Gee allegedly tried to flee on foot from police trying to serve the warrant, but gave up after covering a short distance.
Fickle: A South Fifth Street resident said she was arguing with her boyfriend about his cell phone and he smacked it out of her hands, striking her in the process but she didn't want to pursue charges, Friday. Police told the two to stay away from each other and also made her give her boyfriend his phone, though he then decided she could use it until she's able to add minutes to her own.
