Police reports

Steubenville Police

Bad hand: A Chestnut Street sports card collector told police someone took three of his card albums, Monday. He told police he spotted the items on Facebook Marketplace and the seller blocked him, and fears they’ll be sold and he’ll never get them back. He thinks the thief is someone who does repairs for his landlord.

Items taken: An Oregon Avenue resident said she noticed a number of items missing from her apartment, Monday. She said she evicted her former roommates and when she returned to her residence after they were supposed to be gone, she noticed her portable air conditioner, portable heater, bathroom sink faucet and the guts of her toilet were all missing. Her former roommates deny taking the items, which she values at around $1,500.

Keep moving: The same person who pitched his tent on private property on Dock Street during the weekend moved it to North Sixth Street after being asked by police to move, Tuesday. The owner of the property doesn’t want him living in a tent there, either.

Drugs: Trinity Health Center employees found a hypodermic needle and a prescription bottle containing one granule of a white rock-like substance, Monday. The patient had been brought to the hospital in cardiac arrest, police said, and when they were able to speak with him admitted he has a drug problem, the substance was most likely meth and drugs were probably the reason he ended up in hospital with chest pains.

Light it up: A caller thought a driver who’d left his headlights on and shining into apartment windows in the 4400 block of County Club Drive was a peeper, Monday. Police spoke with the driver, who told them he’d just dropped off a friend who lived there and was about to leave. He said he didn’t realize his lights were shining in any windows.

Fraud: A Pershing Avenue resident told police someone tried to open a credit card with his information, Monday.

Creeper: A Lafayette Boulevard resident said a prowler dressed in black was on her property, Tuesday. She said the family dog alerted them to the intruder. No one was located.

Tough sell: A motorist who crashed at University Boulevard and North Seventh Street told police another driver ran him off the road, Monday. He said a red car attempted to pass him and enter the Veterans Bridge exit, so he swerved to avoid a collision, and instead ran off the roadway and struck the curb and several road signs. Footage from city cameras didn’t pick up the red car or a friend who said she was following him in another car, so police are checking other surveillance footage.

Code issues: Notices of violation were sent to owners/occupants of properties at 1238 Oregon Ave., 1305 Oregon Ave., 1436 Oregon Ave., 1411 Ridge Ave. and 1403 Maryland Ave., high weeds/grass.

Peeping: A Wintersville woman who lives alone said she was in the shower when she heard someone trying to open the bathroom door, Monday. She told deputies she gasped and the person fled. She said her copy of Peterson’s Field Guide to Wild Plants and her Ogahm Oracle Cards were missing.
