Steubenville police

Learning curve: Several juveniles who’d been warned earlier about riding off-road motorcycles in the Labelle neighborhood were caught riding them again on city streets, Wednesday. An officer parked in the 1300 block of Maryland Avenue caught up to them in the vicinity of Carnegie Street and said one rider stopped and another took off on the sidewalk. The officer said he’d planned to just gather names and ownership so he could contact their guardians to come retrieve the bikes, but two of the kids refused to provide the information he requested so he called for a tow truck. As he continued to try to gather information parents began arriving on scene, claiming ownership of the motorcycles. Three juveniles were cited, the tow was canceled and the motorcycles were pushed home, police said.

Starting young: An employee at a Sunset Boulevard gas station said he watched a juvenile steal a pair of sunglasses, Wednesday. He said the youth, about 10-years-old, walked to the back of the store and stuffed the glasses in his hoodie, then walked out without paying. The glasses were valued at $27. Surveillance footage was turned over to police.

Disturbance: Police took a city resident into custody following a disturbance at his home, Wednesday. Nicholas R. Blackburn, 35, 138 Greenwich Ave., was charged by police with domestic violence. Blackburn and a female had been arguing throughout the day and he allegedly refused to allow her to leave, police said. Her bicep and tricep were bruised, but she refused to file charges herself. Blackburn refused to talk with police, and blamed scratch marks on his chest on shaving with a bad razor blade.

Fuss: An Oakgrove Avenue woman said another woman threatened to beat her up, Wednesday. Police said the other woman denied threatening anyone and said she was waiting in the alley to catch the bus to avoid any problems with the other woman.

Ruckus: Two women in the 1400 block of Pennsylvania Avenue argued about a theft that happened months ago, Wednesday. One of the women said she confronted the other about the theft and after admitting to it, she left.

Theft: A Steubenville man reported the theft of items he’d been storing in a garage his friend had access to in Yorkville, Wednesday. He said his friend advised him the owner of the garage had sold it, and the new owner said he “obviously … did not need the stuff but I can use it so I am going to keep it” and hauled his things away. He said a propane heater and miscellaneous tools worth about $400 were stolen.
