Steubenville police

Bad trip: A vehicle ran two red lights before crashing into a dump truck at the intersection of state Route 7 and University Boulevard, Tuesday. Officers said when they arrived on scene they found a disoriented female sitting on the guardrail crying. A witness told police he’d seen a male dressed in black exit the car and jump over the guardrail, then to the railroad tracks. The woman initially told police she was behind the wheel, but eventually admitted to ambulance personnel the car was registered to her but she didn’t have a valid license so when a man at a downtown gas station offered to drive her to Wellsville, she accepted his offer. Police said the woman had a cell phone in her hand when they talked to her, but they found another on the floor and a third in the glove box.

Disagreement: A woman in the 700 block of Market Street told police her boyfriend grabbed her by her shirt Tuesday and threw her against a wall, but he said she shoved her driver’s permit in his face in an aggressive manner and he tried to push her away.

Unleashed: A woman who was walking her dog in the 400 block of Rosemont Avenue said her dog was mauled by a shepherd mix that came off a property, unleashed. She took her dog to an emergency veterinarian but it died.

Near miss: One of two drivers involved in a near-collision in the Hollywood Plaza parking lot Wednesday said the other woman exited her vehicle, “yelling and flipping her off,” police said. She said the woman had once dated her husband and later in the day began texting her juvenile son.

Deep pockets: A white male stuffed two Milwaukee power tools valued at $309 under his coat Wednesday and fled Rural King in a white Chevy Express van with Ohio plates. Police said surveillance cameras captured footage of the incident.

Unruly: A woman in the 200 block of Cunningham Drive told police her neighbor’s dog pulled siding off her home, Tuesday.

Noticed: A Silver Dodge Ram, parked on the sidewalk on Foster Place near Kendall Avenue was ticketed for parking in a restricted area. A homemade trailer nearby filled with construction debris is also being monitored for overtime parking.

Crash: A 21-year-old driver was cited for failure to control Wednesday after police said his car veered off Brady Avenue, striking an electric pole and an apartment building.

Tyler J. Mitchell, 697 Country Club, Lot 24, Cadiz, was westbound in the 800 block of Brady Avenue when he ran off the roadway, police said. The accident left cable lines dangling across the roadway, meter boxes to two residences dislodged and extensively damaged the front porch and window of one of the buidlings, police said.

Pilfered: Gasoline was removed from vehicles and equipment stolen from a Labelle Avenue business over the holiday season. Employees said the theft happened between Dec. 23 and Dec. 28.

Lost: A sanitation worker found a wallet in the 1100 block of Ridge Avenue Wednesday.

Carded: Callers reported a craps game in the 1000 block of Pennsylvania Avenue, Wednesday, but once on scene, police said they found no evidence of wrongdoing.

Contradiction: A man walking to a community market with a juvenile claimed he told another man walking two dogs to keep his distance, and that minutes later the man punched him. Surveillance footage showed a man who’d been walking his dogs was trying to exit the store when the other man started yelling at him, so he turned around and they argued. And at one point he slapped or punched the other man. The man, located later in the day, admitted taking a swing at the other guy but said he’d kept harassing him and had used derogatory language to address him.

Overdose: Police and city ambulance personnel resuscitated two individuals who appeared to be overdosing Wednesday. Police administered a sternum rub to a man found in a vehicle parked in a lot off John Scott Highway while awaiting the ambulance. The other man was found in a car parked in the 1000 block of Plum Street. Both required Narcan.

Unlucky: A vehicle parked in the 400 block of Scenic Drive was struck by a neighbor backing out of his driveway Tuesday.

Reckless: Callers reported a reckless driver on McDowell and Pennsylvania avenues, Tuesday. Police located the man unloading groceries he’d picked up for a friend and said he didn’t appear to be under the influence. Minutes later another caller reported a slow-moving vehicle driving left of center with its turn signal on. The same man was behind the wheel and again, police said he didn’t appear impaired, though he did tell them he’d taken blood pressure medicine.

Kicking: A woman in the 1400 block of Euclid Avenue said a man kicked her door Wednesday to the point where it won’t lock anymore and punched her in the face before fleeing the scene.

Clipping: A woman on Lovers Lane said a pickup clipped her side mirror, Wednesday, and left the scene. The mirror was broken and dangling from the side of the car, officers said.

Cited: Daniel Sarap, 56, 318 Greenbrier Road, Weirton, speeding; Logan M. Woods, 26, 363 Orchard Place, Steubenville, driving under suspension; Lloyd B. William Sr., 59, 707 Market St., Apt. 409, Wheeling, DUS; Susan Wells, 28, 4519 Fairway Dr., Steubenville, hit-skip. Wells allegedly clipped the side mirror of an oncoming vehicle Tuesday and left the scene. When police located her, she told them she was aware of the mishap but was running late.

Arrested: Juan Everett Mitchell, 43, 939 Sherman Ave., Steubenville, assault. Mitchell turned himself in Tuesday, police said.

Arrested: James W. Baker, 39, 28 township Road 281, Lot 12, Steubenville, failure to appear. Baker turned himself in Wednesday.

Arrested: Amy Bartholomew, 38, 937 Broadway Boulevard, Steubenville, falsification and a bench warrant. Police said they encountered Bartholomew while investigating another incident said she initially gave them a fictitious name.

Jefferson County sheriff

No work, no pay: A Martins Ferry resident told police a man she hired to hang drywall and replace vinyl flooring at a Wilson Avenue property removed tools and a bluetooth speaker that belonged to her, Wednesday. The woman said she paid the man $1,000 up front and another $1,600 when the work was completed, but said he called and demanded his tools and threatened to burn the building down even though he hadn’t finished the work. She said when she checked on the property, a screen had been displaced and the man’s tools, along with a speaker, hammers and a circular saw that didn’t belong to him, were removed from the building.

Fraud: A Knox Township resident received a debit card in the mail that he hadn’t ordered Wednesday. He told deputies the bank told him someone had tried to use his name and address to obtain unemployment benefits.

Investigation: Deputies are looking into the origin of crude drawing on the back of a six-year-old Amsterdam child, Wednesday.
