Helping uncover Medicaid fraud

As officials at the federal level go on and on about reducing spending on Medicare and Medicaid by eliminating fraud, waste and abuse, officials at the state level are showing they’ve already been working diligently on that front. Earlier this month, the office of Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost filed indictments against nine Medicaid providers accused of stealing a total of $1.2 million from the program. These suspects are home health aides and mental health specialists who are accused of billing Medicaid for services they did not actually provide. One suspect, James Ferguson, ...

Warning signs about W.Va. roads

If anyone in our area needed a reminder that the efforts to maintain our state’s roadways has been ridiculously underfunded, all they had to do was listen to the discussions during last week’s Brooke County Commission meeting. Commissioners were approached by a county resident who expressed continued concerns over the status of U.S. Route 22, which, despite various attempts at fixing its crumbling surface over the years, continues to present unevenness, with a variety of cracks, craters and bumps. State Route 27, also known as Washington Pike, is another road of concern, with ...

In fact, the only category in which Ohio received a letter grade below a C was for workforce, ...

Guest column/Override the vetoes — delivery property tax relief

Ohio’s business community is facing mounting challenges, and skyrocketing property taxes are at the top of the list. At the Ohio Chamber of Commerce, we represent more than 8,000 businesses of every size, industry and region across our state. When we surveyed our members last year, one message came through loud and clear: The most pressing tax concern for Ohio’s employers is property taxes. Since receiving those results, the Ohio Chamber has been working with other business associations, including Ohio Realtors and the County Auditors’ Association of Ohio, to study the property ...

Football has returned

It’s hard to believe that we haven’t been able to watch a Pittsburgh Steelers game in six months. The last time we saw them, they suffered a 28-14 loss in Baltimore in the wild card round of the American Football Conference playoffs. That loss, on Jan. 11, marked the team’s fifth in a row and brought an end to what had had all of the makings of a pretty good season just a month or so earlier. A lot has changed since that dreary Saturday afternoon — quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Justin Fields have moved on, as has wide receiver George Pickens. Both of the former ...
