It can be tough to operate a small business. In fact, the statistics can paint a pretty bleak picture. The consensus seems to be the average business will last just about 8.5 years, with about 67 percent of new businesses lasting through two. Just about half will not make it past five years, only 33 percent will make it past 10 years and 25 percent will last 15 years or beyond.
