An area educator who is helping to guide potential future journalists has been recognized for her efforts, work that makes our future look brighter. Safe Haven more than Baby Boxes

We don’t hear about them often — because the decision to give up a child is an excruciating one, and does not often result in their use — but another Safe Haven Baby Box has been used to legally surrender a baby in Ohio. This one was at the Delhi Township Fire Department in the state’s Southwest corner, where firefighters responded in less than a minute to deliver care to the infant, according to the Safe Haven organization. Senate bill looks at date-rape drugs

Worried parents often warn their children — of any age — to be wary when they go out to bars and restaurants. Generations of bar patrons have received admonitions from friends and family “Keep your eye on your drink! Be careful!” Despite those warnings, too many continue to fall victim to drugged drinks each year. According to a report by WTVG-TV in Toledo, state Sens. West program lets memory live

Lee West is remembered as well-liked 15-year-old who had a bright future ahead of him, a young man who was willing to share his enthusiasm for life and all of its potential with everyone in the community. An honors student and a multi-sport athlete at Steubenville High School, his life was cut short in a fatal house fire on Jan. 31, 2012.
