Red Riders season ends with extra innings loss

GRAFTON — The Weir High baseball team’s season came to a tough ending on Thursday night with an 11-10 loss in extra innings in a Class AAA, Region 1 tournament elimination game loss at Grafton.

Grafton rallied back from 9-2 fifth inning deficit and a 10-8 deficit in the seventh for their second tournament win over the Red Riders and a spot in the final round of the lower bracket.

Weir High’s season comes to a close with a mark of 12-18.

Lucas McAllister, one of the Red Riders’ seniors, hit a homer and doubled while driving in two runs, while Aleks Zanieski also drove in a pair of runs and Cayden Braswell, Jonathan Horstman, Kason Lash and Liam Williamson each had an RBI.

Zanieski went the first five innings on the mound, striking out six and walking seven.

Grafton will take on Fairmont Senior in the final round, needing to beat the Polar Bears twice. The winner will meet top bracket winner Brooke in the Region 1 Championship Series.

REGULAR SEASON

Huskies edge St. Clairsville

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — The Harrison Central baseball team fended off St. Clairsville on the road, 6-5, on Thursday.

The Huskies rallied from an early 3-2 deficit then held off the Red Devils in the seventh for the win.

The Huskies (16-8) got a double from Tucker Snyder, and two hits and an RBI each from Gage Stoneking and Hunter Snyder and two hits from Anthony Pelegreen.

Knox McKibben was the winning pitcher with five punchout in five innings.

The Huskies are set to host Toronto today at Mazeroski Field.

TOURNAMENT

Toronto bows out

CALDWELL — The Toronto softball team’s season came to a close with a 10-0 loss at No. 3 seed Caldwell in the Division VII, East District sectional finals on Thursday. Laney Danko and Isabelle Cattrell, two of the Red Knights seniors, each had a base hit in the loss.

Toronto finishes its season with a mark of 10-14.
