Red Riders stay alive

WEIRTON — The Weir High baseball team lives to fight another day.

Facing elimination in the second round of the Class AAA Region 1 tournament, the Red Riders bounced back and defeated Elkins, 8-3, on Tuesday evening.

The Red Riders (12-17), advance to take on either Fairmont Senior or Grafton in another elimination game on Thursday.

Caiden Braswell had a triple and two RBIs to lead the way at the plate for the Red Riders, while Colson Kimmel doubled and Aleks Zanieski, Lucas McAllister, Jonathan Horstman and Liam Williamson each had an RBI.

Williamson fired the first five innings on the mound, striking out four and walking two, while McAllister went the last two innings with three punchouts and just one free pass.

Creek doubles up Edison

MINGO JUNCTION — The Indian Creek baseball team made it a sweep of the season series with rival Edison, winning against the Wildcats 8-4 at Muth Field on Tuesday.

Creek, now 18-3 and and No. 3 ranked team in Division IV by the Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Association, scored eight-straight runs after falling behind early.

Sylus Hyde blasted a three-run homer, while Sal Barcalow had two doubles, a single and drove in four runs.

Ty Householder also had a three hit day with a double and two singles.

On the mound, Barcalow fired all seven innings, striking out sisx without issuing a walk.

For Edison, Kyle Long tripled, Chase Freeman had a double, single and an RBI and Bryce Rogers had a double and drove in a run.

Creek travels to Carrollton today in a battle of state-ranked teams in Div. IV, while Edison is slated to host Big Red.

Central wins on the road

WOODSFIELD — The Catholic Central baseball team went on the road to Monroe Central on Tuesday and left with an impressive victory over the Seminoles, 7-2.

Matty Jones led the way with a double, two singles and four RBIs for Central (4-8), while also being thr winning pitcher firing the first 4 2/3 innings allowing just one earned run.

Mason Meeks had two hits and Michael Fabbro drove in two runs.

Joseph Vranish fired the final 2 1/3 innings of scorleless ball to close things out.

TOURNAMENT

Indian Creek bows out

DUNCAN FALLS — The Indian Creek softball team dropped an 11-1 decision to Philo on the road Tuesday in the opening round of the Division IV East District tournament.

The Redskins, who were the No. 9 seed, finish with a mark of 9-14.

Philo, the No. 7 seed, advances to take on No. 2 seed Harrison Central next Tuesday.

For Creek, Emma Vok had a double and an RBI and Rylee Sadler tripled.

McKenna Scott struck out four and walked just one in 3 1/3 innings of relief work, allowing just one earned run.

Scott, who concluded a distringuined multisport career at Creek and is going to play Division I softball at Purdue Fort Wayne, was one of three seniors for the Redskins along with Vok and Taylor See.
