PREP ROUNDUPS

STEUBENVILLE — The Big Red baseball team jumped on visiting Granville early and held off the invaders from the west for a 3-2 victory at the Crimson Complex Saturday morning.

Big Red, now 9-12, scored all three of its runs in the bottom of the first inning.

Maddox Gulan, Nolan Blackburn and Matt Fabbro singled in back-to-back-to-back at-bats, Gulan scored on an error and then Myles Cooper’s RBI single brought home the other two.

From there, AJ Borsch was able to hold the Blue Aces at bay, going all seven innings with three strikeouts and three walks with just one earned run allowed.

Big Red is slated to host St. Clairsville on Tuesday evening.

Creek tops Licking Valley

CADIZ — Competing in the Maz Classic at Harrison Central’s Mazeroski Field, Indian Creek picked up an impressive 9-1 victory over Licking Valley on Saturday.

Creek is now 17-3 on the season going into the final week of the regular season.

Ty Householder had a double, single and two-RBIs, Hunter Rusnak had two hits, Sal Barcalow was 4 for 4 with a double and four RBIs, Sylus Hyde had two hits and Caleb Bodo had a double and a single and drove in two runs.

On the mound, Hyde went six strong innings and gave up just an unearned run while striking out nine batters and walking three.

The Redskins are at St. Clairsville today.

Edison falls to Granville

RICHMOND — Granville did not leave Eastern Ohio empty handed as the Blue Aces bounced back in an afternoon game at Edison for a 5-0 win.

Granville is coached by 2003 Edison graduate Justin Richards, who was a part of Edison’s 2002 state tournament team during his playing days.

His team held his former team to one hit in his homecoming, a Kyle Long double.

Edison’s Bryce Rogers struck out seven and walked two in six innings of work.

SOFTBALL

Toronto falls in DH

WOODSFIELD — The Toronto softball team’s trip to Monroe Central for a twinbill on Saturday ended in two defeats, 15-5 and 13-1.

In the first game, Laney Danko had a homer and a single with two RBIs, while Isabella Cattrel also drove in a run.

In the second game, Catrell hit a solo homer and had two hits, while Danko doubled.

The Red Knighs open tournament action today at River.

Edison has big day

BARNESVILLE — The Edison track and field team had a big day at the Barnesville Relays on Saturday to close the regular season, as the girls topped the overall team scores and the boys placed third.

On the girls side, Hallie Westbrook won the 1,600 and the 3,200. Lacie Pelley jumped a personal best of 5-0 and finished third in the high jump.

On the boys side, Matt Evans won the 110 hurdles and Andrew Kirkman  won the long jump with a best jump of 21 feet.
