Blue Dons get win at Central cut short by rain
STEUBENVILLE — Mother Nature spoiled Senior Day.
The Madonna and Catholic Central softball teams had to battle the weather, the field conditions and each other Friday evening at the Steve Zamana Softball Field. The two teams attempted to play a game, and a rain delay brought the game to a halt. Fortunately, the game was able to resume, however, another rain delay brought the game to an end with Madonna leading 11-2 with one out in the top of the fourth inning.
The game was the final regular season game of the season for the Blue Dons. Madonna is set to open postseason in play in the West Virginia Class 1A Region 1 Section 1 Tournament Monday against Clay-Battelle.
It was important for the Blue Dons to get some work in before taking on the Cee-Bees in the sectional tournament.

“Unfortunately, we have had five games canceled this week, but we do practice every day. I am glad we were able to get some work in. I am glad we were able to see some live pitching other than our own.
“We play Clay-Battelle Monday at 5 p.m. at home at Starvaggi Park. All of our games will be at Starvaggi. We are looking forward to it.”
