Madonna softball bounces back for big win at St. C

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — The Madonna softball team did not wait long to get back in the win column — and did so in style.

One day after their 15-game winning streak ended, the Blue Dons went on the road to St. Clairsville and bounced back with a 15-6 victory over the Red Devils.

A six-run fourth inning helped Madonna pull away.

Madi Owens continued her strong season at the plate with a triple, single and an RBI, while Kendal Ryan had two hits and three RBIs and Ally Laughlin also had two hits and Peyton Conley also drove in two runs.

Ryan went the distance in the circle for the win, striking out five and walking just now.

Now 16-2, the Dons host Wellsville in a doubleheader on Saturday.

Red Knights edge Bridgeport

BRIDGEPORT — The Toronto softball team came from behind, then fended off Bridgport for a 9-8 victory on the road on Tuesday.

The Red Knights (7-8) plated three runs in the top of the seventh, then held off the Bulldogs in the bottom half to secure the win.

Jaylee Brown had three hits and an RBI, Laney Danko had a triple, double and two singles with three RBIs, Isabelle Cattrell tripled and singled plating a run, JJ Rebich doubled, and Kaydence Bailey also plated a run for the Red Knights.

Danko struck out five batters in a complete game effort in the circle.

Toronto travels to Linsly today.

Huskies top Cambridge

CAMBRIDGE — The Harrison Central softball team went on the road to Cambridge on Tuesday defeated the Bobcats 12-8 for their sixth-straight victory.

The Huskies (15-5) plated the final nine runs to storm back for the victory, seven in the top of the seventh.

Kelsey Powers went 4 for 4 with a triple and two RBIs, while Mikayla Pelegreen doubled and drove in three runs, Kara Blackburn had two hits, inlcuding a double, Jaylin Ward and Kailey Banal each drove in two runs and Bailey Smith had three hits and an RBI.

Pelegreen struck out eight in the first five innings, and Emma Skinner got the win in releif, fanning three in holding Cambridge off the board in the final two innings.

BASEBALL

Creek rolls past the Potters

MINGO JUNCTION — The Indian Creek baseball team plated 14 runs in the first two innings on the way to a 17-0 victory over visiting East Liverpool Tuesday at Muth Field.

The now 10-1 Redskins got a triple, single and three RBIs from Ty Householder, while Sal Barcalow had two hits and also plated three runs. Sylus Hyde plated two runs, as did Stan Amis.

On the mound, Hunter Allen and Max Lane combined for a four-hit shutout of the Potters line up.

Creek is slated to travel to Indian Valley today.

Bears top the Beavers

CALCUTTA — The Oak Glen baseball team made it wins in two of their last three games with a 6-2 road win at Beaver Local on Tuesday.

Josh Maher and Lucas Zoellers each doubled, Zoellers also finishing with a single and an RBI.

Maher went the distance on the mound for the now 8-12 Golden Bears, striking out four and walking four.

Oak Glen travels to Harrison Central today.

Madonna wins big

WELLSVILLE — The Madonna baseball team rolled to a 23-0 win on the road at Wellsville on Tuesday.

The Dons, now 14-2, plated 10 runs in each of the first two innings.

Jacob Lazear had a double, single and three RBIs, while David Connors had a double, two singles and two RBIs.

Reno Fuscardo, Reed Wilharm and Maddox Bowen also each plated two runs.

Wilharm and Xavier Taylor each fired five strikeouts in two innings of work to combine for the shutout.

Madonna travels to East Liverpool today.
