Davis, Rook are first team All-Ohio picks

COLUMBUS — The Ohio Prep Sports Media Association Boys Basketball All-Ohio boys basketball teams were announced Wednesday and Thursday, and several local players were among those recognized.

Leading the local contingent were Big Red’s Aiden Davis and Catholic Central’s Benji Rook, each of whom were named first-team All-Ohio after helping lead their teams to a regional appearance.

The All-Ohio teams are based on nominations from the seven districts of the OPSMA, which vote on the all-district teams from regular-season accomplishments.

The girls All-Ohio teams were announced on Monday and Tuesday.

Davis a first team selection in Division III. He was the East District Co-Player of the Year and a nominee for Ohio’s Mr. Basketball award after he averaged 17.6 points, 5.1 rebounds, 3 assists and 1.7 steals per game in the regular season, the first two of which led Steubenville. He also shot better than 80 percent from the line, better than 40 percent on 3s and set the school record with eight 3s in a single game. He is signed to play basketball in college for NCAA Division II powerhouse West Liberty.

Rook, a first team pick in Division VII, was also the East District Co-Player of the Year.

He leaves Central as the program’s all-time leading scorer, surpassing the 2,000 mark for his career and was the OVAC championship game MVP and was picked for the East-West All-Star Game, and averaged 19.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 2.3 steals and 1.4 deflections.

Also garnering recognition were, in Division III, Big Red’s Santino Haney and Will Taylor as special mentions and Tre Wiggins and Cole Bowers are honorable mentions.

Haney averaged 13.1 points, four rebounds, a team-high 6.3 assists and 3.2 steals per game, while Taylor averaged 14.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 2.1 steals.

Wiggins averaged 12.3 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 2.5 steals, and Bower averaged 7.1 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.6 assists.

In Division IV, Indian Creek’s Caleb Bodo was an honorable mention. He averaged 11.1 points and 3.8 rebounds.

In Division V, Edison’s Jackson McBane was an honorable mention after averaging 13 points and eight rebounds.

In Division VI, Toronto’s Austin Buchanan was a special mention and Brady Fair was an honorable mention.

Buchanan put up 17.6 points, 8.7 rebounds and 3.1 steals per game for the Red Knights, while Fsir averaged 13.6 points, 3.9 steals and 5.6 rebounds per game.

Also in Division VII, recognized from Central were Camden Bradley as a special mention and Tommy Pergi as an honorable mention.

Bradley averaged 11.1 points, 7.7 rebounds, 2 assists, 1.2 steals, 1.1 deflections and 0.6 blocks per game, while Pergi put up 10.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 2 steals, 2 deflections and 0.7 blocks.
