Bruins pull away from the Wildcats

RICHMOND — The Brooke boys basketball team raced out to a big early lead and did not look back in rolling to a 65-36 win on the road at Edison on Thursday night.

The Bruins opened up a 20-5 lead at the end of the first quarter and extended that advantage to 39-15 at halftime, leading by more than 30 at points in the second half on the way to the 29-point victory.

Leading the way for Brooke was Andrew Murdock with a game-high 30 points, inlcuding five 3-pointers. Grant Yost nearly had a double-double, finishing with eight points and 14 rebounds, while Crosby Morris had nine points.

For the Wildcats, Jackson McBane netted 15 points and Kyle Long 10.

OVAC CONSOLATION

Huskies edge Wildcats

CADIZ — In the Class 4A consolation final for third place, Harrison Central pulled out a narrow 55-52 victory over Edison in a battle of teams that entered the tournament as the top two seeds.

The game was also a preview of the OHSAA East District tournament as the teams are set to meet again next Thursday at Edison in the opening round.

Lauren Doane tallied 14 points and nine rebounds to lead the Huskies, who finish the regular season 16-6. Mikayala Pelegreene had 14 points and Kara Blackburn had 13 points and four steals.

For the Wildcats, now 15-6, Abby Boka had 14 points while Abby Carpenter and Sophia Henderson each had 13.
