Creek tops Harrison to go back to Class 4A final
CADIZ — The Indian Creek girls basketball team will defend its OVAC championship.
The Redskins earned a return trip to the title game in Class 4A by pulling away from top seed Harrison Central for their third victory of the season over the Huskies, 44-26, Monday night in Cadiz in the semifinals.
Creek (12-8) opened a 12-5 lead after one quarter and pushed the advantage to 27-11 at halftime and did not look back.
Senior standout McKenna Scott hit three triples and finished with a game-high 19 points, while Gracie Klinesmith tallied 11.
For the Huskies (15-6), Mikayla Pelegreen tallied 10 points.
Creek will take on Oak Glen, who defeated Edison in the other semifinal, Saturday in the championship game at the ECO Center in St. Clairsville.
It is the second time in three years the teams will meet in the 4A final.
Golden Bears topple Edison
RICHMOND — Oak Glen, the No. 3 seed in the Class 4A field, went on the road and upset No. 2 seed Edison on Monday night, 46-32, to earn a return trip to the championship game.
The Golden Bears (11-6) overcame an early deficit and broke free from what was a tied game at halftime to pull away from the Wildcats (15-5) in the second half and earn a shot at defending champ Indian Creek at the ECO Center on Saturday.
The Golden Bears and Redskins also played in the 2023 title game.
Edison got 13 points from Sophia Henderson in the loss.
Edison will play Harrison Central in a consolation game on Thursday.
Madonna falls to top seed
NEW MATAMORAS — The Madonna girls basketball team’s return to the OVAC tournament did not end in an upset, as the fourth-seeded Blue Dons fell 62-19 on the road at top seed Frontier Monday night in the Class A semifinals.
The Dons will take on Heartland Christian in a consolation game on Thursday.
