Oak Glen tops Weir High
NEW MANCHESTER — The Oak Glen girls basketball team used a fast start to pull ahead and were in front from there on the way to a 56-44 victory over visiting rival Weir High Thursday night at the Bears Den.
The Golden Bears jumped out to a 20-7 lead at the end of the first quarter and held a 28-21 advantage at the break.
In the second half, Oak Glen (13-7) out-scored the Red Riders (6-11) 28-25 to take the victory.
Leading the way for the OVAC runners up was Kensington McConnachie with 21 points, 16 of which came in the first half, 10 in the opening quarter. She connected on five 3-pointers, three in the opening eight minutes.
Mikalyn Balch and Haylee Clark each added 10 points.
For Weir High, Maleea Faulks and Rayna Hoover both racked up 19 points.
The victory gives Oak Glen a sweep of the Red Riders this season.
