Big Red girls upset Dover to advance

DOVER – The Big Red girls basketball team is moving on once again.

Steubenville, the No. 3 seed in the Division III, East District bracket, went on the road and toppled No. 2 seed Dover, 40-35, Saturday afternoon to advance.

Big Red (16-7) will now meet top-seeded Tri-Valley on Wednesday night at Cambridge.

Steubenville got off to a good start, opening a 17-5 lead after one quarter and holding a 21-12 advantage at halftime.

The Crimson Tornadoes cut the margin to six going to the fourth quarter, but Steubenville was able to do enough to keep them at bay and punch their ticket to the next round.

Nylah McShan tallied 15 points and 16 rebounds to lead Big Red, helping fend off Dover with eight points in the fourth quarter.

Lucy Saccoccia finished with 10 points, while Phynyx Fleming tallied eight points and five rebounds.
