Crusaders get key win on senior night

STEUBENVILLE — The Catholic Central girls basketball team fended off visiting Shadyside on Monday night, 51-44.

The victory came on senior night for the Crusaders, who recognized their lone senior — Natalie Cherepko.

The win improves the Crusaders record to 9-5 and is a key one as they entered the week sitting in first place in the OVAC Class 2A standings.

Central is scheduled to host Harrison Central on Wednesday in another key match up.

Edison makes it a season sweep of Madonna

WEIRTON — The Edison girls basketball team’s strong season continued Monday as they topped Madonna on the road, 72-46, to earn their 12th win in 15 outings and a season sweep of the Blue Dons.

The 72 points were a new season-high for the Wildcats, who entered the week second in the OVAC Class 4A standings.

Leading the way for Edison was Sophia Henderson with 21 points, while Abby Carpenter had 15 and Mimi Ault tallied 11.

Madonna got 11 each from Christany Bartley and Madi Owens.

The Wildcats host Oak Glen on Wednesday, while Madonna travels to Paden City today.

Oak Glen tops Beaver Local

NEW MANCHESTER — The Oak Glen girls basketball team defeated visitng Beaver Local on Monday evening, 53-34.

It was a key victory for the Golden Bears, now 7-4, as they entered the week fourth in the OVAC Class 4A standings.

Mikalyn Balch led the Bears with 15 points, while Kensington McConnachie tallied 13.

Oak Glen goes to Edison on Wednesday.
