Crusaders girls pull away from Edison in battle of unbeatens

RICHMOND — Catholic Central topped Edison 53-29 on the road Tuesday in an early season battle of unbeatens.

Mara Delaney led the Crusaders with 20 points, knocking down four triples, while Mary Rohde finished with 14 and Natalie Chepepko recordede 11.

Abby Carpenter (12) and Sophia Henderson (11) led Edison in scoring.

Dons open with a win

WEIRTON — The Madonna girls basketball team started its season victorious, taking down Valley 37-31 on Tuesday evening.

Maddi Owens led the Blue Dons with 13 points, while Addlyn Welsh tallied 11.

Oak Glen downs Tyler

NEW MANCHESTER — For the first time since 2019-20, the Oak Glen girls basketball team won its opener.

The Golden Bears reversed their early season fortunes Tuesday night by defeating Tyler Consolidated 53-44,

Ella Stewart led Oak Glen with 14 points, while Mikalyn Balch tallied 10.

Crusaders down the Cats

RICHMOND — In the other part of a boys-girls doubleheader, the Catholic Central boys basketball team topped Edison 59-32 on Tuesday.

Benji Rook led Central with 27 points, while Tommy Pergi netted 15 and Andrew Rohde 10.

For Edison, Bryce Rogers paced the way with 15 points.

Toronto tames Tigers

TORONTO — The Toronto boys basketball team downed visiting Wellsville 62-39 Tuesday to open its season victorious.

Austin Buchanan led the Knights with 22 points, while Brady Fair netted 14 and Aiden Filby tallied 10.

Jefferson Christian wins

WEIRTON – The Jefferson County Christian basketball team topped Beallsville 65-40 on Tuesday night.

Mark Jenkins lead the way with 25 points, Lee Gump had a double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds and Wyatt Hervey added four points, eight rebounds and seven assists.
