High-flying Jets too much for Weir

WEIRTON — Union Local continued its impressive season by pulling away from host Weir High Friday night at Jimmy Carey Stadium for a 42-6 win.

The Jets, with the win, improve to 6-0, while the Red Riders fall to 3-2.

Union Local racked up 400 yards of offense, 270 of which came on the ground, while the defense held Weir to just 69 yards.

Jaksan Price carried the ball 22 times for 180 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while Carter Blake added 70 yards and two additional six-pointers to go with his 130 passing yards and a score through the air.

The Red Riders were led by Jamari Hubbard-Bass’ 23 yards and a score.

Price opened the scoring with a 60-yard scoring run to make it 7-0 UL early in the contest, then Blake hit Billy Schumacher for a touchdown in the second quarter to make it a 14-0 Jets lead at halftime.

Blake ran for a 4-yard score early in the third quarter to make it 21-0, then added another early in the fourth on a 7-yard run to make it 28-0 visitors.

The Red Riders got on the board with a 4-yard Hubbard-Bass run to make it 28-7 with 9:48 to go, but Price ran for a 20-yard score, then Blake recovered a fumble for a touchdown on the ensuing kickoff to score the final points.

Malachi Stromile threw for 28 yards, 23 of which went to Devan Colson.

Union Local looks to remain unbeaten when it hosts Cambridge next Friday, while the Red Riders will look to bounce back hosting Richard Wright.
