Creek drops heartbreaker in extras of OVAC semi

CAMBRIDGE — The Indian Creek overcame a deficit and led in the top of the seventh inning during Saturday’s OVAC Class 4A semifinal at Cambridge, but ultimately came up just short in extra innings, 8-7.

After falling behind 3-1 after two and trailing 5-3 through five, the No. 4 seed Redskins plated a pair of runs in the top of the sixth to tie the score and added two more in the top of the seventh to take a 7-5 lead, but the top-seeded Bobcats answered to tie the game in the bottom half and ultimately secured a walk-off win in the bottom of the ninth.

Nicky Maurer had a double and an RBI for Creek, while Aiden Orr went 3 for 4 with a triple. Landon Pownall drove in a pair of runs with a pair of base hits, while Caleb Bodo and Cam Franke also had RBIs.

SOFTBALL

Golden Bears blank Park

NEW MANCHESTER — After not getting to play for most of the week, Oak Glen made it two wins in less than 24 hours as it defeated visiting Wheeling Park on Saturday afternoon, 8-0, in five innings.

Lizzie Kell turned in an impressive performance in the circle, fanning 13 of 16 batters while recording a one-hitter. She walked just one in blanking the Patriots.

Sydney Brown tripled and Maddie McKay doubled in a pair of runs for Oak Glen, while McKayla Zoellers also doubled and Kell and Sarah Brown each drove in a pair of runs.

Grace Smith also had an RBI.

The Golden Bears, who improved to 18-2, solidified their spot as the No. 1 seed in this week’s OVAC tournament with the win.

Panthers top Shadyside

CONNORVILLE — The Buckeye Local softball team picked up its second victory of the season on Saturday at home, topping Shadyside, 5-3.

The Panthers opened a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third and took the lead for good with three more an inning later after the Tigers had answered.

Rylie White led the way offensively for Buckeye Local with a multi-hit game, including three RBIs and a triple. Morgan Richardson had a pair of hits and triple, while Isabella Hepburn drove in a pair of runs and Alli Trekal had a double.

Samantha Ankrom went the distance for the win in the circle, striking out two.

Toronto sweeps doubleheader

TORONTO — The Red Knights took both games of a home doubleheader against visiting East Liverpool on Saturday, 10-0 and 14-3.

In the first game, Laney Danko had two hits, a double and an RBI, Michelle Anderson led the way with a homer and five RBIs in a three-hit performance and Callie Anderson plated a run with a double and two hits.

Andrea Reeves tossed a no hitter with nine strikeouts.

In Game 2, Danko drove in a pair of runs with two hits, Michelle Anderson plated three with a single and a double Reeves homered, hat a pair of hits and two RBIs, Callie Anderson had two hits and two RBIs, Isabell Cattrell had three hits, a double and two RBIs and Abby Liddick and Ashton Thomas each plated a run. Leah Gibson struck out four to take the win.

Big Red drops a DH

POLAND — The Big Red softball team suffered a pair of setbacks on Saturday in a twin bill at Poland Seminary, 5-3 and 9-4.

In the second game, Gia Bowman had a pair of RBIs while Jules King and Sena Smith each threw three innings and had three strikeouts.
