Hill scores 30 in Big Red’s season-opening loss

BYESVILLE — Phaeton Hill scored a game-high 30 points in Big Red’s season opener on the road at Meadowbrook Tuesday night, but the Colts were victorious by a 69-64 count.

Hill nailed four shots from beyond the arc and had a team-leading four assists.

Frankie Vostatek and Ivan Buggs each pulled down eight rebounds, while Brenton Jones added nine points for Mike Haney’s team.

Big Red led, 20-16, after one quarter, then the Colts held a 41-34 lead at the break. Big Red battled back to tie the score at 55-55 headed to the fourth quarter, but Meadowbrook ultimately prevailed.

Jake Singleton led the Colts with 24 points.

In the jayvee game, Big Red took a victory, led by 16 points from Elijah Mullins and 14 from Jace Kernahan.

Big Red is scheduled to take on River on the road Friday night.

Toronto falls on the road

HANNIBAL — The Toronto boys basketball team suffered a 64-33 setback on the road at River Tuesday night.

After a deadlocked first quarter ended at 6-6, the Pilots took a 27-17 lead at halftime and pulled away in the fourth quarter, out-scoring the Red Knights 20-4 in the final eight minutes.

Toronto’s efforts were led by Shane Keenan with 18 points, while Blake Close added four and Nolan Dickinson five.

River’s Kabel Isaly had a game-high 21 points.

Toronto is scheduled to visit Catholic central on Friday.

East Liverpool pulls away from Edison

RICHMOND — East Liverpool pulled away from Edison Tuesday night for an 86-14 win.

The Wildcats were led by Kaden Miller with 11 points.

Cole Daily led the Potters with 18 points, while Devan Toothman had 16 and Trey Armstrong 10.

Edison is set to travel to Harrison Central on Friday.
