Steubenville baseball wins 1,400th game

GLEN DALE — The Steubenville baseball team defeated John Marshall, 9-2, Wednesday’s for the program’s 1,400th all-time victory on Wednesday.

Caesen Sutton tossed a complete-game victory. He allowed two runs (one earned) on nine hits, two walks and struck out 10. Offensively, Aaron Ferguson tallied a single, triple and three RBIs. J.T. Thompson hit a solo home run. Zach Smith had two singles and two RBIs. Cooper Blackburn doubled and drove home a pair. Andrew Gresko added a single and an RBI.

Big Red tentatively hosts St. Clairsville today.

Weir High 7, Union Local 2

BELMONT COUNTY — The Weir High baseball squad bested Union Local, 7-2, on Wednesday.

Tyler Kelly collected the win in four innings on the mound. He allowed two unearned runs on three hits, two walks and struck out six. Anthony Cross pitched the final three frames and struck out a pair.

At the plate, Mason Drobish doubled and drove home two runs. Kelly had a single and two RBIs. Luke Gillette finished with a pair of base hits.

Brooke 8, Catholic Central 5

WELLSBURG — The Brooke baseball team defeated Catholic Central, 8-5, on Wednesday.

Garrett Hornick went the distance for the victory. He allowed four earned runs on nine hits, two walks and struck out nine. Alex Jezierski had the big bat with three singles and three RBIs. Carson Lauttamus had three singles and an RBI, while Andrew Coursin singled twice and drove home one.

For the Crusaders, Kody Carver took the loss in 5 2/3 innings. He allowed eight runs (six earned) on 12 hits, three walks and struck out none. Tate McKenna recorded the final out.

At the dish, Vince Barcalow had a single and two RBIs. Ryan Anderson produced a single, double and drove home a run. Nate Stark also hit a two-bagger.

Edison 3, Shadyside 2

RICHMOND — The Edison baseball team walked off again this season, scoring twice in the bottom of the seventh inning to stun Shadyside, 3-2, on Wednesday.

Blake Connelly picked up the complete-game victory. He allowed two runs on six hits, one walk and struck out three. Offensively, Ian McBane had a single, double and an RBI. Gage Cline and Eli Wilson each singled and brought home a run. Jayden Sanders collected two singles.

Madonna 3, East Liverpool 2

WEIRTON — A two-run seventh inning propelled the Madonna baseball team to a 3-2 victory over East Liverpool on Wednesday.

Matt Amaismeier started the first five innings and allowed two unearned runs on one hit, no walks and struck out six. Lucky Pulice pitched the final two frames for the victory, allowing one hit, no walks and punching out four.

Offensively, Tyler Starvaggi collected a single and two RBIs. Mason Thompson singled and drove home one. Amaismeier tripled and Dom Brncic doubled.

SOFTBALL

Brooke 2, Wheeling Central 0

WELLSBURG — Maleaha Misch tossed a complete-game, two-hit shutout during the Brooke softball team’s 2-0 victory over Wheeling Central on Wednesday.

Both of the Maroon Knights’ hits were on the infield from Margaret Hartzell and Liz Ramenek. Misch also struck out 14 batter and walked none.

At the plate for the Bruins, Kalliopi Makricostas and Lexi Foresha each singled and drove home one. Lizzie Foresha and Emilee Knorr also singled.

Brooke tentatively hosts Weir High on Friday.
