Five-run seventh lifts Golden Bears over Bruins

WELLSBURG — A five-run seventh inning paved the way for the Oak Glen baseball team over Brooke, 10-5, on Wednesday.

Nick Chaney went the distance for the win. He allowed two earned runs on eight hits, three walks and struck out three. Hunter Rhoades hit a home run and drove in two. Hunter Patterson had two singles and two RBIs. Danny Bridges tripled, while Jered Hissam recorded two RBIs.

Charlie Fuscardo started the first 5 2/3 innings. He allowed five runs (none earned) on four hits, three walks and struck out six. Josh Shorts relieved him and took the loss, pitching one full inning. Garrett Hornick recorded the final out.

Offensively for the Bruins, Alex Garrett singled and doubled. Braelyn Sperringer doubled and drove home a run. Charlie Fuscardo also tallied an RBI. Hornick singled twice, while Andrew Coursin had a two-bagger.


Weir High 11, Linsly 1

WHEELING — Mallory Rosnick cranked a home run, and Chesney Tice was solid in the circle during the Weir High softball team’s 11-1, five-inning victory over Linsly on Wednesday.

Tice allowed no earned runs on four hits, no walks and struck out two in the complete game. Rosnick hit a solo homer, singled and drove home another run. Mea Kaufman delivered a triple and two RBIs. Reagan Hoover singled twice and drove a run home. Olivia Baker and Rylee Donaldson each doubled, while Baker recorded an RBI.

The Red Riders (15-7) tentatively host Wheeling Central today.

Oak Glen 15, Wheeling Central 0

NEW MANCHESTER — The Oak Glen softball team ran its record to 19-0 following Wednesday’s 15-0, four-inning win over Wheeling Central.

Lizzie Kell pitched the shutout, allowed four hits, no walks and struck out seven. She also singled, doubled and drove home a pair of runners. Sarah Brown recorded two triples, a single and three RBIs. Maddie McKay also brought home three with a single and a double. Olivia Munoz singled twice, doubled and had two RBIs. Sydney Brown added two singles and a double.

The Golden Bears tentatively travel to East Fairmont Friday.
