RICHMOND — For‌ ‌the‌ ‌first‌ ‌time‌ ‌this‌ ‌season,‌ ‌Edison‌ ‌and‌ ‌Toronto‌ ‌met‌ ‌on‌ ‌the‌ ‌wrestling‌ ‌mat‌ ‌with‌ ‌the‌ ‌Red‌ ‌Knights‌ earning‌ ‌a‌ ‌42-24‌ ‌victory‌ ‌over‌ ‌their‌ ‌old‌ ‌foes‌ ‌on‌ ‌Saturday.‌ ‌

The‌ ‌outing‌ ‌technically‌ ‌was a‌ ‌tri-meet‌, ‌as‌ ‌Bellaire‌ ‌also‌ ‌competed.‌ ‌However,‌ ‌with‌ ‌just‌ ‌two‌ ‌wrestlers‌ ‌making‌ ‌the‌ ‌trip,‌ ‌the‌ ‌Big‌ ‌Reds‌ ‌were‌ ‌never‌ ‌in‌ ‌contention.‌ ‌The‌ ‌two-man‌ ‌roster‌ ‌was‌ ‌winless‌ ‌on‌ ‌the‌ ‌day‌ ‌but‌ ‌gained‌ ‌tough-to-find‌ ‌mat‌ ‌time‌ ‌during‌ the ‌COVID‌-complicated‌ ‌season.‌ ‌ ‌

In‌ ‌the‌ ‌full‌ ‌Toronto-Edison‌ ‌dual,‌ ‌heavyweights‌ ‌kicked‌ ‌things‌ ‌off.‌ Toronto’s‌ ‌Josh‌ ‌Fancher‌ ‌registered‌ ‌a‌ ‌pin‌ ‌to‌ ‌put‌ ‌the‌ ‌first‌ ‌points‌ ‌on‌ ‌the‌ ‌board.‌ ‌It‌ ‌was‌ ‌the‌ ‌first‌ ‌of‌ ‌five‌ ‌falls‌ ‌for‌ ‌the‌ ‌Red‌ ‌Knights.‌ ‌Chris‌ ‌Parker‌ ‌(170),‌ ‌Garrett‌ ‌Dozier‌ ‌(145),‌ ‌JoJo‌ ‌Savage‌ ‌(126), ‌and‌ ‌Nathan‌ ‌Haines‌ ‌(220)‌ ‌also‌ ‌recorded‌ ‌pins.‌ ‌Toronto’s‌ ‌Bryan‌ ‌Cattrell‌ ‌(138)‌ ‌and‌ ‌Doug‌ ‌Whitman‌ ‌(132)‌ ‌were‌ ‌awarded‌ ‌forfeit‌ ‌victories.‌ ‌

For‌ ‌the‌ ‌Wildcats,‌ ‌sophomore‌ ‌Ethan‌ ‌Waggoner‌ ‌registered‌ ‌a‌ ‌pin,‌ ‌while‌ ‌Logan‌ ‌Pittman‌ ‌(106),‌ ‌Will‌ ‌ Clay‌ ‌(160) ‌and‌ ‌Zac‌ ‌Evans‌ ‌(182)‌ ‌won‌ ‌by‌ ‌forfeits.‌ ‌ ‌

In‌ ‌an‌ ‌exhibition‌ ‌match,‌ ‌Waggoner‌ ‌and‌ ‌Dozier,‌ ‌each‌ ‌team’s‌ ‌respective‌ ‌lone‌ ‌state-ranked‌ ‌wrestler,‌ ‌squared‌ ‌off.‌ ‌Waggoner‌ ‌is‌ ‌ranked‌ ‌11th‌ ‌in‌ ‌Division‌ ‌III,‌ ‌152‌ ‌pounds.‌ ‌Dozier‌ ‌is‌ ‌26th‌ ‌at‌ ‌145.‌ Dozier‌ ‌ended‌ ‌up‌ ‌with‌ ‌a‌ ‌third-period‌ ‌pin‌ ‌in‌ ‌what‌ ‌up‌ ‌until‌ ‌then‌ ‌was‌ ‌a‌ ‌closely-contested‌ ‌4-3‌ ‌battle.‌ Against‌ ‌Belliare,‌ ‌Edison’s‌ ‌Jacob‌ ‌Larkins‌ ‌(145)‌ ‌earned‌ ‌a‌ ‌first-period‌ ‌pin‌ ‌and‌ ‌Joey‌ ‌Simpson‌ ‌also‌ ‌got‌ ‌a‌ ‌win.‌ ‌Toronto’s‌ ‌Zac‌ ‌Close‌ ‌(152)‌ ‌ ‌recorded‌ ‌a‌ ‌win‌ ‌opposite‌ ‌the‌ ‌Big‌ ‌Reds.‌ ‌

Edison‌ ‌travels‌ ‌to‌ ‌Barnesville on Wednesday‌ ‌to‌ ‌take‌ ‌on‌ ‌the‌ ‌Shamrocks‌ ‌and‌ ‌River‌. Toronto will be back on the mat in a tri-meet on the same day at Martins Ferry.
