Big Red wins wrestling title

STEUBENVILLE — The Steubenville wrestling team continued to make the most of the 2020-21 season and continued its dual dominance with a 51-18 victory over Minerva on Wednesday.

The latest win gave Big Red a Division II Regional Dual championship and advanced Steubenville to the Final 8 on Feb. 6 against an opponent to be determined. That dual will take place at Steubenville.

Big Red remains undefeated at 12-0.

Also remaining unbeaten on the season with wins against Minerva were Aaron Ferguson and Brandon Kinney. Ferguson won with a quick pin, while Kinney earned a victory via a forfeit. Ferguson is the fourth-ranked wrestler in Division II at 160 pounds. Kinney is ninth at 182.

Fellow state-ranked wrestler Ethan Pappas, who is third at 170, won by a pin, as did Kaiden Minella (132).

Anthony Hill (120) and Savier Faulks each won by major decision.

Also putting points on the board for Big Red were Cal Beadling (106), Anthony Shevlin (113), Cole Antill (145), state-ranked Tyler Muldrew (152) and Spencer Ostovich (220).

Big Red is back on the mat today against Martins Ferry at the Crimson Center.
