Super Six moving to Charleston for 2020 season

The Super Six — the West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission’s three state football championships, which have been a staple at Wheeling Island Stadium since 1994 — will move back to its former home in Charleston for the 2020 season.

WVSSAC Executive Director Bernie Dolan announced Friday morning that, because Ohio County remained in “orange” on the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources COVID-19 alert map, that the event must move to a lower-risk county for this year. Kanawha County was yellow, the second-lowest risk designation, on Friday’s DHHR COVID alert map.

The games will be played at Laidley Field at University of Charleston Stadium and remain on their normal schedule of one game Friday and two Saturday.

The event recently celebrated its 25th year at Wheeling Island Stadium and, in February, the SSAC signed a new four-year contract for the Super Six to remain at Wheeling Island Stadium.
