Five local W.Va. soccer players make second-team all-state

Numerous local West Virginia boys and girls soccer players made the WVHSSCA All-State soccer list.

Beginning in Class AA/A, Weir High had senior defender Brendon Carpenter make the second team and freshman midfielder Antonio Pittman as an honorable mention.

Oak Glen senior goalkeeper Jacob Clark made the second team, while forwards Andrew Giambroni, a junior, and sophomore Stephen Polly, a sophomore, are honorable mentions.

For Madonna, junior defender Angelina Spickard is a second-team member. Junior forward Isabella Pulice and junior defender Sofia DiBacco are honorable mentions.

In Class AAA, Brooke senior midfielder Liam Cronin and senior goalkeeper Andrew Coursin are on the second team, while junior forward Eddie Marks is an honorable mention. As for the girls, junior forward Brooke Ohler is an honorable mention.

The WVHSSCA All-Region teams also were announced. On the boys side of Class AA/A, Giambroni, Polly, Clark and Carpenter are first-team members. Making the second team was Weir High junior defender Brayden Lawton and senior goalkeeper Jonathan Howard. Junior midfielder Jacob Morgan is an honorable mention.

On the girls side of Class AA/A, DiBacco, Pulice and Spickard are first-team worthy. Madonna junior midfielder Kristina Lesho and senior goalkeeper Abigale Mack are honorable mentions.

In Class AAA, Brooke’s Joe Pepe is the Region 1 boys coach of the year. Making the firs team are Marks, Coursin and Cronin. Garnering second-team honors are senior midfielder Hunter Adams and senior defender Quinlin Blair.

For the girls, Ohler is on the first team. Gracing the second team are senior midfielders Lydia Buchmelter and Katie Deserio. Honorable mentions are junior forward Madison Platt and freshman midfielder Ella McCullough.
