WELLSBURG — It has certainly been a successful past few days for the Wheeling Park boys cross country team.

After winning the Chick-Fil-A Invitational on Saturday, the Patriots came into Wednesday’s Bryan Fritz Memorial Invitational at Brooke High School hungry for another win. And, they got it done.

Four runners secured a Top 10 finish, as Wheeling Park claimed the hardware for the second time in five days, beating runner-up Oak Glen by 22 points.

The Wheeling Park girls team also claimed the top spot after winning the tiebreaker against John Marshall.

“I couldn’t be happier,” Wheeling Park coach Jacob Galik said. “The course was a little different than we expected it to be. They changed a little bit from the regional year. It was an adjustment, and the kids made it during the race. I’m proud of how they ran, especially doubling back after Chick-Fil-A on Saturday. It was a good day (Wednesday).”

Jonah Nizami paced the Wheeling Park boys team with a fourth-place finish timing in at 18:04.88. Teammates Max Morgan and Brady Miller were not far behind him, as they placed fifth (18:23.52) and sixth (18:51.45), respectively.

Hunter Midcap (19:33.74) crossed the finish line in 10th place, while Trent Thomas rounded out the scoring for the Patriots in 11th (19:38.42).

Oak Glen’s Konnor Allison was the individual champion on the boys side, as he ran away from the pack and clocked in at 17:23.40.

Wheeling Central’s Aidan Scott turned in an impressive performance. The freshman secured runner-up honors, as he timed in at 17:35.98. John Marshall’s Mack Allen finished third (17:41.55).

Indian Creek’s Russell Lough (seventh, 18:56.74), Steubenville’s Caleb Noble (eighth, 18:57.35) and Oak Glen’s Mason Konchar (ninth, 19:06.51) also placed in the Top 10.

On the girls side, Lacey Wright paced Wheeling Park. She placed fourth, timing in at 22:53.66, while teammate Isabella Border clocked in at 23:34.15, good enough for 10th.

Harrison Central’s Jasmine Arnold continued her impressive prep career, as she ran the 3.1-mile course in a time of 21:58.53 to secure the individual title.

John Marshall placed three in the Top 10, including Zara Zervos, who placed second (22.18.60), Sierra Taylor (sixth, 23:15.45) and Audrey Robinson (ninth, 23:26.46). Also in the Top 10 were a duo of Oak Glen runners: Sophia Arner (third, 22:18.68) and Kennedy McGeehan (seventh, 23:17.38).

Indian Creek’s Madison Conrad placed fifth, crossing the finish line in a time of 23:00.77, and Linsly’s Haley Heitz ran to an eighth place finish (12:18.53) to round out the Top 10.
