Fayak’s walk-off hit, Haught’s complete-game effort lifts Post 33 to regional victory
COSHOCTON — A strong pitching performance mixed with some magic at the plate lifted the Jefferson County Post 33 Legion baseball team to the regional title game.
On Saturday, Jefferson County defeated Cowle Post 151, 2-1, thanks to Noah Fayak’s walk-off single.
Post 33 will play for the regional championship on Monday against Cowle, Brilliant or Toronto. All three will play today, and the lone survivor will advance. Cowle defeated Brilliant, 12-0, in the opener on Saturday. Also, Toronto defeated Coshocton, 7-4.
In the bottom of the seventh frame, Andrew Kinney and Klay Cottis began with back-to-back walks. George Ash singled to load the bases. After a strikeout, Fayak singled up the middle.
Post 33 got its first run in the fourth thanks to Cottis’ RBI single, scoring Kinney.
On the mound, Tristan Haught went the distance. He allowed one earned run on four hits, walked none and struck out five.
