Brncic’s shutout lifts Blue Dons in Class 1A semifinal

PADEN CITY — The Madonna baseball team advanced to the OVAC Class 1A championship with a 5-0 victory over Paden City on Monday.

The Blue Dons (12-13) will play top-seeded Cameron at 4 p.m. Saturday in Steubenville for the title.

Dom Brncic dominated the game on the mound. He went the distance, walked one and struck out 11. At the plate, Matt Amaismeier had two singles and two RBIs. Christian Ridgway tallied two singles and an RBI. Dom Mazur added a single and an RBI.

MARTINS FERRY — The Indian Creek softball team pulled away from Martins Ferry on Monday night for a 15-2 win.

Kaydee Kinsey had a big game in the circle and with the bat. She pitched the first four innings for the win, with two strikeouts, and drove in two runs. Megan Kelly had three hits, including two doubles, Haylie Scott had three hits, also with two doubles. Carly Jo Penner, who pitched the final three innings, had four hits.
