Steubenville hosts junior high wrestling tourney

Ethan Waggoner of Harding faces off against Austintown Fitch’s Tlyer Lintner in the 132-pound final at the Ohio Athletic Committee Junior High District Tournament held at Steuhenville High School on Sunday. Waggoner won the match by decision. Elite junior high wrestlers from across the state of Ohio converged on Big Red for the state qualifier. The district tournament brought hundreds of wrestlers to town with hopes of punching their tickets to the OAC Junior High State Championships set for March 16-17 at the Covelli Center in Youngstown. The top six wrestlers in each weight bracket advanced to the state meet. Steubenville will again play host to an OAC event, when grade school districts are held Sunday at the Crimson Center.
