Huskies down RV; Brooke loses at BU
WARSAW — Juniors Tyler West and Wyatt Elias and senior Jesse Ball each scored a pair of touchdowns as the Harrison Central football team kept River View winless with a 40-16 road victory Friday night.
The Huskies are 6-3 and host winless Buckeye Local next week for the V.A.L.E.S trophy.
Coach Justin Kropka’s ball club sits in a precarious playoff position. It needs a win next week and, more than likely, help to remain No. 8 in the Division V, Region 19 standings.
But, that’s next week.
West led the touchdown brigade with a 70-yard run with less than four minutes gone in the first period.
Ball then went back-to-back in the final 3:07 of the first quarter — on runs of 1 and 24 yards — and it was 19-0 after 12 minutes.
West took it to the house from 43 yards and a Logan Starr PAT made it 26-0.
Elias got in on the act the a 1-yard plunge and Job Positano’s kick had it 33-0 at halftime.
The quarterback scored for his second tame with 4:56 left in the third period, this from 4-yards out, and a Positano PAT made it 40-0.
River View scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns and a pair of 2-point conversions reached the final score.
Buckhannon-Upshur beats Brooke
BUCKHANNON — The Brooke football team struck first in a road contest at Buckhannon-Upshur Friday, but the Buccaneers reeled off the next 28 points to take a 28-7 victory.
Ezekiel Farmer struck for the Bruins (1-8) on an 11-yard run in the first quarter. Then, BU scored four rushing touchdowns after that. Nathan Tolliver scored on runs of 20, 58 and 77 yards before Jack Garcia capped the scoring with a 22-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
The Bruins’ touchdown was set up by a blocked punt by Ethan Secrist. It was returned to the 11-yard line. From there, Farmer found the end zone.
For Brooke, Gage Yost paced the offense by throwing for 148 yards on 13 of 30 passing. The Buccaneers did intercept four passes, however.
Dalton Valero ran for 61 of of the Bruins’ 129 rushing yards. Alex Edgell added 26, Yost had 25 and Farmer finished with 17.
Buckhannon-Upsher pounded out 401 yards of total offense, all on the ground. The Buccaneers improved to 3-4 on the year.
Brooke returns home next week to take on rival Weir.
