St. C spoils Edison Senior Night
RICHMOND – In the blink of an eye, the St. Clairsville football team dispatched Edison on Friday night.
The Red Devils scored early and often in their 41-0 victory at Cartwright Field in Richmond.
“We played pretty well getting off the bus and I’m excited about that,” said St. Clairsville coach Brett McLean. “We were able to manufacture some points early and it mounted an emotional victory early on in the game.”
St. Clairsville, which entered the game as the No. 1 team in Div. 5, Region 17, improved to 8-0 on the year. The Red Devils scored on their first two possessions and had a touchdown on special teams to go up 21-0 by the 8:03 mark of the first quarter.
“We were opportunistic early by making some plays and getting some turnovers,” McLean said. We took a step forward by being dominant early and often tonight.”
Dakota Bacon scored for St. Clairsville on a 10-yard run, after the defense forced a three-and-out on Edison’s first possession of the game. Its second score came on a 67-yard pass from Zach Bigelow to Malik Gummer, then Joey Maroon recovered a fumble in the endzone on the ensuing kickoff for the Red Devils’ 21-0 lead.
The loss spoiled Senior Night for Edison (2-6).
“Senior Night is always a special night,” said Edison coach Derrick Stickles. “It would have been nice if we were able to get a win for our seniors but unfortunately it didn’t turn out that
