Humane society needs volunteers

To the editor:

Do you love animals? Have you been to the Jefferson County Humane Society and Animal Shelter? Jefferson County is lucky to have an organization with a dedicated board of directors, staff and volunteers. With the addition of the humane society’s clinic, the medical care and resources available to the community are remarkable.

The humane society relies heavily on donations and fundraising. Volunteers are essential to daily operations, all fundraising efforts and, ultimately, the growth of the JCHS. Volunteers are appreciated, whether they help by cleaning the cat room, doing laundry, transporting dogs and cats to offsite adoption events, or by simply taking a dog on a walk and playing with kittens. Volunteers also can help at the clinic or distribute food at the pet food pantry.

The humane society also offers opportunities to became a foster parent of dogs, puppies cats and kittens. Fostering socializes the animal for adoption and frees up shelter space to save another animal’s life. I personally volunteer and have fostered many cats and kittens, and it has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.

Please consider volunteering or fostering for the humane society. If you have any questions, call (740) 314-5583.
