A huge thank-you
To the editor:
Thank you to everyone who participated in the Women in Action Against Cancer Coalition’s Breast Cancer Ceremony on Oct. 15. It was heartwarming to see so many come out to Jim Wood Park on a chilly but beautiful day to honor or remember a loved one.
We would especially like to give a huge thank you to Janice Kiaski, who always seems to go above and beyond for us. Second, a big thank you to the Herald-Star for all the articles promoting our ceremony this year. It also was a great pleasure to have Jefferson County Commissioner Dave Maple, Steubenville Mayor Jerry Barilla and council members Willie Paul, Eric Timmons and Asantewa Anyabwile join us.
We would like also to give an especially huge thank you to Grace Phillips, a senior at Edison High School, for stepping in at the last minute to sing the national anthem. She has a beautiful voice and did a great job for us.
Thank you also to RoseAnne Piofer, nurse navigator at Images Breast Center, for providing us with an update of statistics on breast cancer and Trinity Health System public relations for providing a table of information.
Our biggest huge thank-you goes to our speaker Ralph Knight, husband of Kelli Knight. He not only did a great job of relating his story of being the spouse of a breast cancer victim but he made us laugh with his stories about her. He also made us cry when he said he almost didn’t speak because that day also was Kelli’s birthday. We’re sure that made it even harder to get up there and talk, but you did a great job. We will always remember your story and we will never forget Kelli – she was a wonderful warm woman and a part of our coalition family.
The Women In Action Against Cancer Coalition always needs more members so if you’re interested in joining this wonderful group please contact me at (740) 632-1144.
