Ready to serve area residents

To the editor:

Think back to 2018 and the confirmation process of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh. I remember watching as tears rolled down the cheeks of his wife, Ashley, while their family was attacked for days on national television. The attacks were led by senators who cared more about a political agenda than serving “we the people.” It was in that moment I realized the disturbing level of political division in our country.

Now in 2020, we are watching another Supreme Court nomination process. This nominee, Judge Amy Coney Barrett, may be the best in my lifetime. She’s a wife and mother to a beautiful family. She’s brilliant, kind and has a track record of applying the law as it is written. Yet she is still being attacked by politically motivated senators more worried about pleasing a divisive base than doing what is right for our nation, and that’s the biggest problem in politics today. We have too many politicians more worried about getting elected than doing the job they were elected to do.

The hate also is why good people don’t run for office, but the fact is we need good people stepping up to the challenge now more than ever. In 2015, I encouraged my mom, Lisa Ferguson, to seek a judicial appointment for that very reason — because we need more women and men who seek elected office for the right reason — to serve the people and our U.S. Constitution.

My name is Ron Ferguson, and it would be an honor to serve you and Jefferson, Belmont and Monroe counties in Columbus as your state representative. Please vote Ron Ferguson for state representative on Nov. 3 and check out my website ronforohio.com.
