McKeegan: Stanko is the right choice

To the editor:

I am the current Jefferson County recorder and, after 28 years of being your recorder, am retiring at the end of this year.

My chief deputy, Bob Stanko, has been working for me for 24 years. We have taken in several million dollars in fees and recording costs since the oil and gas boom came to Jefferson County in 2010. The increase in abstractors and filings has brought many research questions and questions regarding documents that are being filed. Stanko continuously reaches out to the various entities, abstractors and attorneys to understand what they are wanting to file and its purpose. The oil and gas industry has created new and unique instruments, and reaching out to learn what their intentions are is the sign of a great employee. Bob always has gone above and beyond to serve the customers of the recorder’s office.

Stanko is a graduate of Kent State University and is constantly giving back to the community. In addition to working at the office, he has coached track at Catholic Central for many years. He has been a huge influence on many young people in the area. He is a solid person whom many people, including myself, respect.

The recorder’s office accepts, records and archives pertinent documents pertaining to your most valuable asset, your land.

We also maintain military discharge records and provide certified copies to veterans as needed. Many people come to the courthouse just to locate their deed, mortgage, check for liens or look at their interest in oil and gas, which makes it the busiest office in the courthouse. This recorder’s office is on the cutting edge of organizing and maintaining these documents. The person responsible for this job is Bob Stanko. In his tenure as my Chief Deputy he has played an integral role in maintaining documents, managing the office and staff, preparing the budget and payroll and being there to assist the citizens of Jefferson County. Many people say that the office would fall apart without Bob, and I completely agree with that!

As I stated before, I have been the Jefferson County recorder for 28 years as successor to my father, Pete McKeegan, who retired after serving 28 years. My slogan was “if it isn’t broke, don’t fix it.” Over the years, Bob has expressed ways to further modernize and improve the office, and in fact played a key role in upgrading the computers and equipment when needed and getting all documents scanned so that they can be accessed on any of our 14 computer stations for the public to utilize when researching the records. If you elect him as your next recorder, I can guarantee that you will see immense changes in the office.

Few people know how dedicated, efficient and knowledgeable Bob Stanko is in this office. I’m very thankful to have had him by my side these past 24 years. Experience matters, and I endorse and highly recommend Bob Stanko as the next Jefferson County recorder.
