Laman party needs donations
To the editor:
This is just a reminder that the 41st-annual Ray Laman Children’s Christmas Party will be held at the Wintersville Volunteer Fire Department beginning at 10 a.m. on Dec. 14. Children must be accompanied by an adult. They will be entertained with a sing-a-long with Kenny Wells, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Frosty the Snowman, elves, Mrs. Claus and, perhaps, a surprise visit from the Grinch before the arrival of Santa.
This is one of the largest community events in the area for children under the age of 10 and is open to neighboring areas, not just Wintersville. We are a nonprofit organization funded solely through donations of area merchants and caring citizens. As the yearly attendance grows, our donations remain about the same. For some children, this is their only Christmas, so we try to keep the gift bags nice and plentiful. Without more donations, this is getting harder to do as annual costs keep rising.
We urge everyone reading this to open their hearts and wallets for the area children. Without your generosity, this event cannot be made possible. We do not want to cut back on the size, quantity or quality of the gifts.
Donations and comments can be sent to the Ray Laman Children’s Fund, 60 Pioneer Drive, Wintersville, Ohio 43953; myself at (740) 264-2161; or the Wintersville Police Department, 200 Grove St.
Donations must be received by Dec. 12 to make the program. May this year’s event make the holidays happier for a lot of area children.
