Help celebrate Toronto memorial
To the editor:
This is a reminder to all our fellow Jefferson County citizens.
The Toronto American Legion is sponsoring a Veterans Day Parade at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday.
This parade is not just for Toronto, it’s for all residents in the Tri-State Area, all Legion members, all veterans, families and friends.
The parade is in honor of our 100th anniversary of the First World War 1 Monument in the United States that was placed in Toronto.
Linda Beclutt and I are reaching out to all Tri-State Area first responders, EMTs and police and fire departments to support us by having cruisers, ambulances, fire trucks, etc. to ride in the parade — we thank those who have committed already and look forward to hearing from others.
We are asking our friends in local schools and cities to help us by entering your marching bands in the parade to show your support and colors for supporting this event.
Some of the local leaders who are supporting us are Mayor John Parker; Lt. Col. Bernard Willis; Jefferson County Sheriff Fred Abdalla; state Sen. Frank Hoagland, R-Mingo Junction; Ron Ferguson; Jefferson County Commissioner Thomas Graham; and the Legion group from Weirton.
Please help us in honoring all the World War I veterans who gave their lives so we can live our lives the way we do today.
We need and would deeply appreciate your participation to help us.
Please Call the Toronto American Legion Post 86, to show your support for this 100th anniversary of the World War I Memorial and all our veterans. You can reach us at (740) 537-9317, (740) 632-7739 or (740) 317-8584.
We look forward to hearing from our local leaders and citizens to help us.
Thomas Hannan Jr.
Commander, Post 86
