Abdalla has earned thanks

To the editor:

The evening of Sept. 8 always will be a night to remember in Jefferson County history. That’s when hundreds of people packed the Mingo Junction Knights of Columbus hall to honor their hero, Jefferson County Sheriff Fred Abdalla.

The sheriff’s supporters from all around the Ohio Valley and beyond came out to pay tribute to this honorable man and community leader. We were treated to a delicious dinner and a lively “roast and toast” of the sheriff, offered up by his friends, colleagues and family. The evening was capped off with the unveiling of a portrait of Abdalla, reaching out to a young child, marking the keystone of his public service, and what he’s best known for — protecting children with love and compassion. We thank artist Dave Barnhouse for perfectly capturing the essence of our beloved sheriff in this portrait.

The Mingo Business Association could not have made this evening a success without the help of all the sponsors of this event. To each of you we say, “thank you” from the bottom of our hearts for stepping up to show your pride in our special sheriff and the communities that he serves.

We have been asked why now was chosen as a time to honor the sheriff. Our sheriff does not choose a day or time to be there. He is always there for us. So this has been the perfect time to show our appreciation for all of his hard work and dedication. We will continue to thank Sheriff Fred every day, for his leadership, compassion and determination to keep Jefferson County a safe place to live for us all.
