To the editor:
The mass shootings recently in Gilroy, Calif., El Paso, Texas, and Dayton have elicited the predictable cries for ever more gun regulations. Once again, a few crazies go off the deep end and incite a senseless tragedy, and the typical knee-jerk reaction of the American left is to further restrict and regulate. To punish the other 90 million innocent gun-owning Americans for the actions of a comparative handful of maladjusted whackos.
I’m seeing online the usual references to the apparent tendency of mass shooters to be white males. This isn’t always true, of course, but come on, there are the equivalent of many mass shootings in, well, let’s call them urban areas of the country, every year.
Residents of our inner cities kill and victimize each other with zeal and abandon, by truckloads, sometimes during the course of a weekend. Often even in a single day, depending.
They’re “oppressed,” though, and so seem somehow excluded, existing outside the normal, hysterical gun control discussions.
Few who otherwise support gun control ever seem to seriously address that issue. In fact, they often virtually ignore it, probably because many of these areas already have strict anti-gun laws. It’s something of an indictment of government’s ability to properly control firearms.
By all means, though, let’s ignore the constant drumbeat of violence in inner-cities. Let us focus, instead, on the occasional nutjob white guy who goes off the deep end and incites a senseless tragedy. Let’s use it to smear all white males by association, as many I’ve seen do. That’s logical, and not racist, at all. Right?
But hey — I’m just a vile hater for pointing this out.
Is it wrong to politicize these incidents?
Democrats naturally and unsurprisingly blame Trump, their “white nationalist” boogeyman. Their presidential hopefuls Elizabeth “Fauxcahontas” Warren, Kamala “Side Chick” Harris and Robert “Fake Mexican” O’Rourke have been fundraising on the backs of these tragedies. If they can shamelessly exploit catastrophe for political reasons, as they so often do, so can we.
Speaking of shameless Democrats, is anyone else tired of the constant flow of ridiculous, inflammatory rhetoric from liberals and Democrats, toward people who disagree with them? Unending comparisons of conservatives and Republicans to Nazis; Fascists? Continuous accusations of “racism,” “sexism” and “hate”? This endless playing of the victim card is naive, superficial and childish. But then, so are they.
Further, U.S. Rep. Joaquin Castro, D-Texas, released the names of various Trump donors in his district. Because, you know, donating money is wrong when it’s to Trump, and crazed anti-Trump nuts should be able to go to the donor’s homes and businesses. This shows you how little class and restraint these people truly have and how malicious they can be. Anything and everything is fair game.
It also shows you how pathetically desperate they are. Their field of candidates is wobbly at best, as they all scramble to appear the most ridiculously “woke” of the shrill group. 2020 isn’t the Trump-crushing lock they’ve promised, and they know it.
