Band puts on enjoyable show

To the editor:

The Tri-State Community Band, under the direction of Johnny Leonard, gave a wonderful performance July 14 at the Prime Time Center.

The band played a variety of songs, including show tunes, standards, marches and patriotic music.

A highlight of the show came when World War II veteran and former band director Anthony Violi took the baton to lead the band. He was terrific and received a standing ovation.

The audience also took special delight when the band played a medley of songs saluting the armed forces.

The concert concluded with John Philip Sousa’s rousing “Stars and Stripes Forever.”

Congratulations to the band, Prime Time Director Judy Owings and everyone involved. It was an entertaining and memorable afternoon.
