Thanks to all who helped

To the editor:

My Grandma Manley always told me the two most important things in life are a good education and an amazing smile. She also told me you should always write thank-you cards.

Well I am smiling with gratefulness and graduating high school today. I am writing to say thank you to a few people who have blessed me. I would first like to thank Dr. Tom and Suzanne Brown. Thank you for the college scholarship you presented to me at my senior recognition program at the Jefferson County Joint Vocational School. I am so thankful for your love and care all of my life. You are two amazing people, and I long to be as giving and caring as you some day.

I would also like to thank Andy Pelegreen and Hope Players for the scholarship. Hope Players has taught me self-confidence and character that I would not have learned anywhere else. Thank you for honoring me with this gift.

I also received the Anita Jackson Community Service Scholarship from the Ambassadors Club of the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce. Receiving this scholarship has meant so much to me. I love helping others like Jackson did with her life, and I will strive every day to change the world around me. Thank you, Chamber Ambassadors, for blessing me with this award.

In closing, I want to thank the Jefferson County JVS and the staff for believing in me and giving me the tools to succeed in college. I am planning to attend Eastern Gateway Community College and major in early childhood education and, hopefully, becoming an art teacher some day. Thank you to my parents, my family, my church (Wintersville United Methodist Church) and my grandmother in heaven who taught me the value of saying thank you. I hope to make you all proud.

Emily Manley
