Florida should look to our area

To the editor:

For the last several elections, I have worked as a poll monitor and assistant at the Bantam Ridge Precinct, located in Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Wintersville.

In this precinct in the last election, there were 139 absentee and 508 walk-in ballots cast, keeping in line with the 56 percent turnout with countywide precincts. It was inspiring to see such a turnout for a midterm election.

I want to thank Joan Pritts, Wendy Johnson and Lois Dalesio, who worked together to make our precinct function without any problems or allegations of questionable procedural issues. I understand counties in Florida are many times larger than Jefferson County, but I’m sure they have many more workers in proportion for their needs. If proper protocol is followed by everyone in every precinct, why are there missing or lost ballots or ballots found hours or days later?

Maybe they should study how Jefferson County manages its elections.
