Hoagland earns a chance

To the editor:

I’m a fairly new resident in Ohio’s 30th Senate District. My parents came here is 1981 for retirement and the area was thriving. Why now is this area of Ohio struggling? Businesses are closing, homes are up for sale or dilapidated. Why? Is it because our leaders aren’t interested in the area enough to improve it? It seems they aren’t making good decisions or fighting for residents in our 30th District.

Sen. Lou Gentile is supposed to be working and fighting for this area in Columbus, but I don’t see it. Lou was elected to the Ohio Senate in 2012, but I haven’t heard of anything he has done for our area. Before being elected to the Legislature, Lou worked for former Gov. Ted Strickland, the same Ted Strickland who allowed jobs to leave this area for other states. The same Strickland who raised 140 fees costing taxpayers upward of $1.5 billion on everything from drivers’ licenses to birth certificates and even trash collection. The same Strickland who left only 89 cents in the Ohio rainy day fund and lost Ohioans 450,000 jobs. It seems Gentile learned from the worst governor in the history of our state.

Gentile claims to be an advocate for veterans. That’s good, but what has he actually accomplished for them?

This year we have a better option, Frank Hoagland. Hoagland retired as a United States Navy SEAL after 22 years of service to our great nation. He has fought terrorists across the globe, protecting the freedoms all of us cherish, and he is a veteran from right here in Jefferson County.

Hoagland tells the truth about what is needed to improve the area, and he has a real plan to get it accomplished. He’s a fighter who is ready to take the Ohio Valley’s fight to Columbus. He believes in small businesses, giving back to the community and taking care of our own. Hoagland will put the people of the 30th Senate District first. Hoagland will focus on real problems that affect this area and do it with the experience of a decorated veteran and small business owner. Hoagland will get the job done.

Please give Frank Hoagland a chance — vote Hoagland.
